Harold Hamm, the billionaire founder and CEO of Continental Resources told a University of Oklahoma dean he wanted scientists dismissed who were researching links between oil and gas activity and this state’s earthquake surge

I definitely wouldn't call it an illegitimate government. It's a deeply flawed government, it's a corrupt government, but it's not "illegitimate". It could be much, much better. And we should demand more. But revolution is not the answer. Revolutions happen when bread costs too much to afford. We are nowhere near that point. Revolutions don't happen unless things get really, really bad. And the fact is that our lives today are better than they've ever been.

What we need to do is take back our government. Vote for real reform, vote out incumbents, push for a change to the voting system, and push real hard. But if you're not a voter, you can't do that. If you don't vote in the primaries, you don't have a say in who the candidates are. There are good people every campaign who are never heard from because so many people have dropped out of the process. And when voter apathy is so high, scare tactics and get-out-the-vote are the most effective means of winning elections. It becomes a battle of turnout rather than ideas.

By the way, I get that as a progressive you're probably pretty disillusioned with the Democratic Party right now, and I don't blame you. They're a party of empty suits. But our party was like that too once, back in 2008, and we turned it around. You may not like what we've done with it, but we are represented now. There's a lot of money in the mix, a lot of corruption, and that's true for both sides of the aisle- but we also have real fiscal conservatives, and a nice selection of idealistic candidates for president in 2016. Not to mention our collection of governors who are fighting our fight in states all across the country.

So no, I don't buy your narrative of illegitimate government. If your party is broken, take it back. Vote out the incumbents and vote in people you can stand. You'd be amazed what a little bit of fear can do to politicians.
