Having played Azure Moon, I think I see why so many don't understand Edelgard.

One thing about the Parlay scene in Edelgard’s favor-Edelgard is clearly the smarter (if not the better) person in that exchange. Dimitri’s assertion that social change ought to come from the people in principle is just stupid, so what, even if the situation is bad the nobility should wait until there’s an actual uprising? That’s not the way to save lives either. And the writers being Japanese, they know that’s a stupid concept, because every major social revolution in Japanese history has been imposed too down (The Meiji government ended the Feudal System, the American backed post war government established liberal democracy, etc. etc.) So Dimitri’s assertion is even dumber in a Japanese context than it is in a Western one, where social revolution is more common.
