help with overweight daughter

I highly recommend watching some food documentaries together. Watch Food, Inc., PlanEat, Fed Up, Forks Over Knives. You yourself should also watch Sugar: the Bitter Truth (on YouTube) and Sugar 2.0 (also on YouTube). Unlike most people here, I recommend going cold turkey. Carbs wreak havoc on your hunger hormones, causing you to yo-yo all day. Sugar (i.e. sucrose and fructose, including high-fructose corn syrup, and the 50 others names we call sugar) in particular is addictive. In reality, there's added sugar in almost every processed food. Nobody wants to admit that processed and refined foods simply are addictive. The easiest way to get off is to just stop, be miserable for a couple of days, and then move on. (Pay attention to what Dr. Lustig says in Sugar: the Bitter Truth regarding sugar consumption in overweight and obese individuals; it physiologically affects them differently than normal weight individuals)

The healthiest diet contains no sugar and limited animal products, i.e. whole grains high in fiber and vegetables and legumes. You might also try Mark Bitman's VB6 diet plan (going vegan before 6pm); however, you need to also watch your sugar intake on such a diet because sugar is vegan.

The easiest way to eat a healthy/ier diet is to not eat any processed food. If you want to eat, you gotta cook it yourself (this includes bulk brown rice in a pot, not a Uncle Ben's ready rice in a microwave, oatmeal in bulk, not quaker oats, buying beans raw, buying potatoes raw, making your own guacamole not buying preservative and sugar laden crap out of the refrigerator isle). If you want to eat yogurt, ignore fat content, get rid of the sugar. Do not eat any yogurt with sugar or high fructose corn syrup or cane sugar. That's what makes it addictive AND not satisfying. Eat yogurt with lots of protein and fat and you'll find, one container is enough for 3 hours or more. You will be amazed at how much you cut back portion sizes simply because cooking is time consuming. Remember, spices are your friend!!
