The left-wing aren't voting for "more services for me". They're voting for more scientific and moral consideration in our politics.

Okay, maybe YOU are. Why do you think you speak for an entire wing of the political spectrum? There is a significant chunk of the American electorate who will vote for whichever politician promises them more in services. I will not comment on if that is right or wrong, but it's objectively no more right than myself voting to keep the money that I earn.

That's not self-preservationist, it's intellectually and emotionally informed. We're already surviving. We'd have no incentive to improve by that logic.

What? Are you denying that voting trends towards self preservation? Again, you are assuming responsibility for a massive part of the electorate - one who you've already previously claimed you aren't aligned with.
