Homeless, low income. Sudden $300k inheritance. Please help me make a wise decision.

I would weigh van cost against housing cost for same time ie, life of van. A Mercedes sprinter sounds like a perfectly rational, commonly taken option for today's youth. Just don't plan on it being a daily driver vehicle. It will last 6-10 years if well cared for and bring you a small cash return at the end, also will cost maintenemce and insurance and operation$. An apartment would cost 1,000 a month maybe. 100k ~ = 6-8 years . BuT: You cannot spend next year's rent on the sprinter if you own it outright which is a big reality bump vs an apartment where you will definitely spend next years rent if you are keping savings as future cost of livng. No way you will stretch 100k for 6-8 years of rent if you have it in the bank. You'll burn it in 2 years nickle and diming yourself.

Also a van can go back and forth bewteen less expense locales, employment locales, desired locales.

A nice van conversion removes a bunch of excuses for you to get your life on a track you are proud of w/ work, education, and the whole package on your plate at day one.

If you get an apartment it will entail a one year lease likely, if you get a van you can sell it the next day.

Vanlife is a real thing, and a growing, totally legit strategy for young folks to survive at the entry level of today's youth challenging economies.

ALSO: Take stock honestly of handouts and petty loans you have received and give some people an envelope with cash in it as a thank you card when you quickily move out. Karma is King.

Good luck dude. You deserve it.
