How do you deal with agitation?

Hello there!

I have a little mindset suggestion, I hope it helps.

Sometimes instead of thinking how to get rid of anxiety, try thinking how to be immune to it instead.

It's the same thing, but with a little twist! I will explain.

If you're worried about insects biting you, instead of avoiding them, you can make yourself unpleasant to them instead. That makes you immune.

It's similar to anxiety! If you try to avoid it, sometimes it only gets worse. Because anxiety is about avoidance in a sense. About running away. If you're running away, the brain sees that and gives you even more anxiety, to help you out, you know.

It takes courage to stand your ground and let the anxiety be there, without reacting. By doing nothing anxiety will eventually fade away.

It's not easy, especially at first, when anxiety is so strong. You'll slowly get more and more used to these feelings tho, and it will become easier.

But in the meanwhile, you can do other things to help yourself. You can try breathing exercises, for example. The things you already know. Except don't do them to get rid of anxiety. Do them to strengthen your armour against it!

Try to do belly breathing, or the 4-7-8 breathing method. Maybe do the 4-7-8 breath each 30 minutes or each hour, 3-4 times. It only takes one minute, and it helps you to have an anchor. Your mind will start to see the pattern... "ok, every 30 minutes, it's time to relax". The relaxation will "be there", your mind won't get too lost in worrying, because each 30 minutes there's a halt to that. Relaxation won't be forgotten, it will never be too far away.

Another suggestion is to pay more attention to your body. Feel it from within, part by part. That helps you to not be swayed by your thoughts as much.

Eckhart Tolle talked about this in "the power of now". Here's an excerpt: "Direct your attention into the body. Feel it from within. Is it alive? Is there life in your hands, arms, legs, and feet - in your abdomen, your chest? Can you feel the subtle energy field that pervades the entire body and gives vibrant life to every organ and every cell? Can you feel it simultaneously in all parts of the body as a single field of energy? Keep focusing on the feeling of your inner body for a few moments. Do not start to think about it. Feel it. The more attention you give it, the clearer and stronger this feeling will become." In chapter six, "the inner body."

I hope that helps. Thanks everyone for reading. Good day to all who read this!
