How Microsoft plans to make the Xbox great again | The Verge

I know it is suicide to go against the clear PS4 bias that is currently flooding the gaming landscape but I seriously can't take reading this same stupid copy and pasted diatribe about the Xbox One's "utter failure as a console" for all the reason you listed above.

Now before I really begin it should be noted that I don't even own an Xbox One (I have a PS4 and have been pretty underwhelmed with it to say the least).

You want the simple truth as the why the consoles are performing the way they are? Because trends, memes, and being your average follower has never been more prominent especially when it comes to the digital entertainment medium.

The Xbox One reveal was definitely not the smartest move they have made but as other's have stated before the average gamer looking to buy a new console likely doesn't know or care in depth about matters regarding DRM, frame rates, media integration, etc. You know what they care about? Which console is going to be the "winning" choice so that they can validate themselves for buying a $400 piece of plastic. How is this determined? Well after the reveals all it took was a stupid highlight reel of people saying "TV" and "Sports" followed up by unnecessary provoking videos by Sony taking jabs at Microsoft every chance they could.

Now, present these two incredibly stupid videos of "information" to the general public, spread it around on Facebook, text it to your friends and VOILA! That's pretty much all it took for the PS4 to take off. The Playstation 4's success is seriously thanks to Xbox slipping up during their initial showing and not necessarily by their own merits.

Again, I'm not fanboying here. This whole console generation is a complete disappointment and it's just embarrassing to me that people can keep spouting off about how awful the Xbox One is while simultaneously being enamored with Sony for doing things that would get Microsoft crucified (paid online with bad service, horrible PS+ offerings, under performing games, huge push for social and media integration, lack of basic features and updates, the list goes on and on).

The fact of the matter is that the gaming environment is filled with children (whether it be actual or just grown children) and they will follow blindly to whatever is currently the favored team. Unfortunately for Xbox no matter what they have done or what they will do people will still continue to parrot what their friends or peers have told them.

I encourage you to try it yourself, ask someone who doesn't follow gaming in depth but still loves to play games. If they have a PS4, ask them why they purchased that over the Xbox One. I can bet my life their answer will be "Because Xbox One doesn't play used games and it only works for sports!" Sadly that is not true and never was but it's too late now. The masses have joined team Sony and there is no looking back. The only shining light is that it appears that Microsoft seems to be continuing to push their product and remain faithful to delivering to the best of their ability.

Sorry for the long post, just had to post my thoughts. Thanks.
