Hungary prepares to end legal recognition of trans people

Thanks for taking the time to reply. What I'm having a hard time understanding is, all those characteristics you described are physical. They can be addressed with cosmetic surgery if someone has the resources, but at the end of the day, they are just that - cosmetic.

Almost everyone doesn't like some aspect of themselves, but almost no one gets cosmetic surgery because it is a resource intensive procedure.

Most people will spend some time thinking about their self-image issue and the distress it causes them, try to identify a root cause, work to rationalize it in the context of their life, and come to a certain conclusion. They will either conclude that cosmetic surgery isn't worth the cost, or proceed with some modification to their physical appearance. Sometimes therapy is involves in this process.

It seems that trans individuals are convinced that it's their body which is wrong, and their brain which is right. Various forms of physical dysphoria are often addressed via therapy, and I don't see why the same cannot apply to gender dysphoria.

At the end of the day, if I cannot afford to fix my pointy nose or skin condition, I have to live with it. Otherwise my feelings of inadequacy will manifest as a mental illness. I see gender dysphoria the same way - a result of people putting too much emphasis on their gender.

Sorry if this came across as rude, that was not the intention. For the record, I have no issue with anyone modifying their body in any way. But if trans individuals are saying that it has nothing to do with societal norms, I have a hard time understanding how gender dysphoria is any different than other physical dysphorias.
