Though, in my early 20s, I was picking up some take out a couple blocks from my home around midnight. I'd never felt unsafe in my Milwaukee neighborhood. As I left the restaurant, there was a man leaning against a new Cadillac, wearing preposterously dapper clothes (hat, suit, shoes etc) and said to me "Well hey there...you wanna catch a midnight movie?" (To be fair, we were next to a movie theater.) It took him a minute to take no for an answer. As a stand alone incident, it was mildly unnerving and I scooted the hell outta there. But a couple years later, I saw the documentary Pimps Up Hoes Down about prostitution in Milwaukee and Chicago and it dawned on me ... "Ohhhhhh that guy didn't actually wanna see a midnight movie."

Keep your head on a swivel, ladies, and DO NOT traipse around solo late at night.
