If you just re-listened to S1, has that caused you to reexamine your thoughts about Adnan's case and the pod or did it reaffirm them?

I think they didn't [ask Adnan about his lies] because that would have been bad for the story.

Bad evidence. Kind of funny, huh? My favorite thing about Serial - maybe its only redeeming value to me, in fact - is the incredible layers of irony present in Sarah's work. Irony that is not intended, because it's all about how invisible she is to herself. In this case, she was utterly shocked and confused by Jim Trainum's explanation of the concept of "bad evidence".

 Jim Trainum
So how much do you want to push, how much do you want to create “bad evidence?”

 Sarah Koenig
But, there’s no such thing -

 Jim Trainum
It’s an actual term, called “bad evidence.” Right. You don’t want to do something if it is going to go against your theory of the case.

 Sarah Koenig
But see - I don’t get that. I mean that’s like what my father always used to always say, “all facts are friendly.”

That's from episode 8. Let that sink in. Episode 8! Our host is befuddled by the idea of confirmation bias. Actually, what's really funny here is that "bad evidence" isn't about confirmation bias, at all. When Trainum talks about "bad evidence" it should be immediately clear that he means "non-helpful" evidence. Bad evidence isn't exculpatory or inculpatory. It's chaff that turns into a dust cloud and muddies the waters. Defenses will latch onto it because it is always present and can be used to confuse and misdirect. So it is not in the interest of the police or prosecution to create more evidence, when that more has nothing to do with the case.

But SK the alarmist idiot clearly interprets it to mean something else, something that at the very least paints the good guys as incompetent, if not sinister. "Bad evidence" must mean evidence that "some other guy" (aka Anyone But Adnan®) did it. And the cops shouldn't be excluding that evidence! Because if they did such a thing, it would mean they weren't on the level.

Sarah, if all facts are friendly, why did you omit most of the most important facts pointing toward Adnan's guilt from your show?
