I really had no choice but to stay at my mother's for the rest of the month

Sounds like whatever lived at that place wanted out and to show someone what had happened to them. I say this because:

My friend in grade school had a large family. He was the youngest of several siblings and everyone in his family attested to seeing "The Lady in White". As a child I didn't know what to make of it but as an older man this story really reminded me of the lady in white. They said she "lived" in the attic of their very old home and would come down to visit on occasion. Never mentioned anything about it being too spooky(I knew almost his entire family because his Dad and older bros coached out little league basketball team and his mom came to and helped at all the events at school). It seemed like they were use to seeing her. I never heard a report of it being scary(although I'm certain whoever first spotted her must have been quite shocked) and the entire family including close family friends all claimed to have seen her at least once which I assumed was a hoax when I was younger but now being much older is seems very peculiar that their entire family(who were all very kind and awesome people) would all come up with "The Lady in White" just for fun. And recounts from family friends really solidifies the fact that I truly believe their house to be haunted by this mystery lady.

This could have been a tortured spirit who lived at your mom's place haunting it and when she passed it set the Jawless man free. Since you stayed there and attempted to continue your life as usual the spirit could have easily followed you home haunting the equipment you brought along with you on your trip. WHATEVER it was that caused this HAD to be scary as fu- because I've seen plenty of chat rooms on the internet and in a vast majority of rooms where the conversation flows from user to user you'd have to ban EVERYONE at once and then unban them shortly after(an absolute bitch for any admin) for a chat to just fall dead like that.

Powerful stuff. I hope for your sake OP that the jawless man has found peace and has left this plane of existence.
