You misunderstand. I wasn't saying it's an aberration in small-town America. I was simply commenting on the difference of scale here. Backwards, simple-minded people exist everywhere, but a would-be rapist shaving the head of their victim and literally parading them around town to shame them for resisting is something that simply doesn't happen even in the worst parts of America. Not that it couldn't, mind you, especially with the way things are going right now. And it's not my intention whatsoever to take away from how horrible rape is in any case, or how much worse it is when the rapist gets off Scott-free. Nor how common that is in both places.
