Saying that prayers don’t work is the truth, not “prayer shaming” -- "Prayers do nothing. And actually, praying may be worse than doing nothing because prayers allow a person to feel like they are doing something, when they aren’t."

Me exs parents were like this. They prayed about everything, and thought every prayer worked, because you know... Jesus.

Anyways. My ex was horribly abusive, and I made the right choice and got my happy ass out of there. Well, his mother calls me (she prays) and tells me that she would pray for her son and God would take control, and fix him. She then asks me to reconsider the break up, because she couldn't stand to lose her son (he was threatening suicide, but he's a pussy). So I told her as calmly as I could, "Irene, as a Christian woman think about what you are asking me to do, you are asking me to get back with an abusive man, so you can live your life peacefully. You want me to put myself in danger for you". She then says, " but we have been praying and the Lord will answer our prayers, he will save him." So I told her " GOD ISN'T COMING DOWN HERE TO SAVE YOUR SHITTY SON! BOTTOM LINE IS, YOUR SON IS JUST AN ASSHOLE. PRAYING ISN'T GOING TO FIX ANYTHING! (I yelled at her) I then said, "your son will never get help, because you're not doing anything effective. You aren't sending him to counseling you aren't talking about his issues that he has. You're talking to your damn self while you could be doing something to help your son (he had some pretty big issues). I told her praying won't stop him from hurting someone else. All she said was "I understand" and hung up the phone. Praying doesn't do anything. People like my exs mother think that miracles happen because they pray and read the bible.

I never argued with her about it til the break up. She has her beliefs and I have mine. She was a nice lady, and made some of the best damn tacos I've ever tasted in my life!
