It's formulaic music that doesn't push any boundaries, doesn't articulate any deep human trait, doesn't make you think about anything besides maybe consumption. It's music designed to be agreeable to the highest number of people, which is why it all seems so bland and similar. Then they pump this music into grocery stores to amplify your mood ever so slightly so that you have a positive feeling associated with the experience leading to a positive feeling associated with the grocery store. Now you're buying stuff you didn't intend to because you're in a good mood, and the grocery store gets more money.

I'm not shitting on the music, either. It's more impressive than the music that I am capable of making. People can genuinely enjoy that kind of music. There is nothing wrong with people liking what they like. But the way Capitalism has twisted music into a tool for psychological manipulation is pretty sad.
