I've got a...

edit: This became somewhat of a rant.

Both are great but I think Frozen the stronger movie overall.

I won't lie, with me Tangled's humor hits the mark a greater percentage of the time than Frozen's, the latter seeming to aim for a younger audience more than the former(Olaf, trolls) but it's close, Frozen has great moments too, Oaken etc...

Both have great songs, different styles and you could argue either way for which's are better overall. I'd say Frozen's come out ahead, Let it Go and the For the First Time in forever reprise are so full of emotion and do a great job of furthering the characters a plot in a meaningful way.

But the main reason I think Frozen is better is the narrative and the characters, I admit I love Flynn Rider, Rapunzel is a joy (and very comparable to Anna) and Donna Murphy is fantastic as Mother Gothel, but Frozen establishes far more interesting and complicated characters. Hans is a curious villain, the movie has lots of great subtle hints at his plan throughout. Elsa too is a great character and steals the show for me. Her powers are a great plot device and were utilized brilliantly. It's fascinating to follow her struggle with her emotions, isolating herself to protect the ones she loves and mature as the film goes on. Her being forced to stay in during her parents' funeral, Let it Go, the For the First Time in Forever reprise and the finale, when she is confronted by Hans come to mind as some of her best moments.

I also can't finish this write up without acknowledging how many tropes Frozen ignored, and did so very well eg; Love at first sight, true love needing to be romantic, the princess needing to be saved by a prince and I even love how Sven acts as a mockery of the whole Talking animal trope.

Both Tangled and Frozen are fantastic (as are BH6 and Wreck it Ralph) but it saddens me every time I see Frozen being shot down, often simply because people are frustrated by how big a phenomenon it has become, it still remains a great movie.
