I've just been summoned for Jury Duty. I can't go for both practical and moral reasons. Have you ever been summoned? Did you end up going, or getting out?

I got called and wanted to get out of it but decided to just suck it up and go. It was annoying for work as we were short staffed as it was and I had no idea if I would go for the screening and be chosen or not. If you are chosen, you start right then, you don't go home and come back tomorrow or getting any real chance to call anyone.

If you don;t get chosen they just say thanks and you leave.

Basically what happens is everyone caleld up for duty is brought into the room, the case is read out. They call people maybe 10 at a time and you state your name and face to acused and all the lawyers. The lawyers can say right then whether they want you or not. It's obviously based on who they think the best "peer" group or more sympathetic to the case the person will be.

As the case I was called to was a pair of young men accused of rape of a 17 year old girl. Most of the people who were accepted for jury duty that day were younger men and women, basically peers and not some grouchy looking old lady

In the end i was glad I was not chosen, and glad for the experience. Sorry, I am basically no help and I hope things work out for you
