Career Advice / probation officer

I was hired two years ago with a BA Psych and other kinds of work experience. I know a few people hired at the same time who had brand new BA Psych degrees and no work experience other than A&W.

It also depends on the city. It is hard to get on at Saskatoon, because everybody wants to live in Saskatoon. Easy to get on in most other communities. I believe this is one of the best times ever to be a young person with a university degree. You will easily get hired. But your first hiring might have to be in a community you'd rather move on from asap. Living way up north a couple years while you are young could be a fun adventure, and you are paid more.

For the interview, be able to talk about Social Learning Theory, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, criminogenic needs, and Risk-Needs-Responsivity. Community resources for clients. The difference between youth and adult clients (they have the same criminogenic needs, but difference in maturity, culpability, and youth should be guided by parents, but usually aren't.)
