Je suis Charlie.

"The Chart" is a wholly inaccurate representation of technology and history. It implies a great many thing, and pretty much all of them are incorrect. "The Chart" implies:

  • After the Roman Empire fell we lost a great deal of technology.

  • The technology that was lost after the Roman Empire fell put society on the same level as the Egyptians a thousand years before.

  • For the entirety of the middle ages or "Christian Dark Ages" as "The Chart" calls it, technology and society didn't advance at all.

  • That this was all those horrible Christian's fault.

  • Lastly that we would all be riding Hoverboards to work if they had not held us back with their evil religion.

So, yeah, umm, okay.

The Fall of the Roman Empire was obviously a big event, however the Roman Empire didn't fall, just the western portion, often called the Western Roman Empire appropriately enough. The Eastern Roman Empire, which had historically been the richer and more important part of the Empire since Diocletian at least, would still survive for a thousand years. The Eastern Roman Empire would also maintain and improve on technology that the WRE had possessed. In the ERE we don't find much evidence of a Dark Age at all really, with great buildings and fantastical technology being used. Hagia Sophia and Greek Fire for instance.

Further more the Muslim lands in Africa, the Middle East and Iberia and Asia would produce great philosophy, poetry, art, and architecture. Through contact with Christians in Iberia and Sicily the Muslims were responsible for bringing many ancient works of philosphy like Aristotle back to western Europe. I am not even going to touch on other places, like China, India and Japan. Just remember that Europe wasn't the only place in the world, and those other places didn't really experience a dark age.

During the "Christian Dark Ages" in Europe technology and society did not stand still, like the chart suggest. The lack of a large and powerful central state capable of funneling resources into vanity projects might not be there, but there were advances still being made, for instance: Artesian Aquifer, Gothic Arcitecture, blast furnace, reading glasses, Roger Bacon, Universities, horse shoes, stirrups, and a whole lot more. Universities like I said is a invention of the "Christian Dark Ages", The Universities in Paris and Bologna being two of the more famous ones during the Middle Ages. These institutions were in very real way supported by the Church and it would be from these institutions that the Renaissance that will end you hated "Christian Dark Ages" will come.

The Church was very much a advocate of knowledge during this time, both inventing and preserving technology and philosophy. I honestly don't think you will learn shit, so I am just going to say fuck it, go live in ignorance you dumb piece of shit.
