John Carmack sheds light on mobile positional tracking (Full Video Interview)

I don't know how much technical knowledge you have, but I know it's somewhere between none and not-enough-to-make-your-idea-reality.

I'm trying not be too harsh here, but there's literally nothing to talk about. Either you're making the thing, or you're not. And right now you're not.

You're not a boy standing on gold. You're a boy who thinks that he might be standing on gold, but doesn't have the means to actually find out.

That's the point at which the boy has to ask for help. And not help as in "give me advice on what I should do". Help as in "someone please do for me the things that I am incapable of doing myself".

What kind of advice could you possibly be asking for here? It is so completely obvious what needs to happen at every step along the way to a working product.

Do everything that you can do, and then find others who can do the things you can't.

Can you build the hardware component of this? Then do it. Why are we talking on the internet instead of you building whatever piece you are possibly capable of for your "potentially profound" idea?

You clearly haven't done it, because otherwise we wouldn't be having this conversation. You would be looking for a programmer, not "asking for advice".

If someone came to me and said "I've got a brilliant idea for how we can revolutionize inside-out positional tracking, but I'm not willing to do describe it to you. Will you work with me?" that would be the end of the discussion. It's the exact same thing that has happened every time someone has come to me with nothing more than an idea.

If someone came to me with a completed piece of hardware and said "I built this thing and I need someone to help write drivers for it" you'd would at least have my attention.

People with money can have ideas and just turn them into reality. Everyone else actually has to DO things. They have to do work. And learn.

You don't need a patent. You need a Non-Disclosure Agreement, so that you're not afraid of talking to the people who could actually make this a reality.
