Legally-Recognized Friends: the legal benefits of same-sex marriage should be expanded to other relationships

The point of legal benefits granted to couples is to promote family unit among the population. The government provides this benefit all around the world primarily because they want law abiding tax payers, because you know, tax money. Families are less likely to engage in crimes compared to single folks, because they have the family to look after.

If you want legal benefits, then consider starting a LLC and add in a bunch of single people. Single people don't get more incentives because there is no "sanctity"of friendships in any culture I know of that mandates life long relationships like marriage do , so there is no direct benefit for the government to grant benefits to "friends".
