Life is Beautiful : The festival that doesn't care about the lives they disrupt.

I live downtown, I dont live in a high rise condo. I live in a mid-rise building. Im 28 years old. and many of our residents are similar ages. It's a nightmare trying to walk to fremont to get to work. our building is on 8th street. they've shut down our street. Their gates come up to the front entrance. We have no where to park, because theyve shut down everything to the next block over. so our building lost 75% of our parking. not to mention they are effectively advertising our building by shining light on the artwork, and the spotlights poor into the windows. Across the way their are weekly/monthly renters that are all affected as well. it may not be the best area. but forcing residents to walk around a 10 block footprint, or be forced to take a slow unreliable shuttle in major traffic disrupts our lives. Residents inside the footprint are given access. however our building that falls right outside their gateline. It's been made difficult to access our building, and you need special access cards, but the festival security doesn't care what we've been given by our management and don't recognize it. 200+ ppl live in my building, and there are many more working class people down the street. that have adopted downtown as a home. The zoning and permits for the festival are decided years in advance. And we know how much easier it for corporations to lobby our local government. than for residents that work 9-5 or work strange casino shifts. to say people are only affected for 3 days is not true.. as streets have been shut down for 2 weeks. it affects parking, it affects easy access to stores that we go to for everyday items. and is generally a mess.
