Locked Up Warriors (2017) "Despite its reputation for social justice and equality, New Zealand has one of the highest rates of imprisonment in the western world." [25:04]

Fun fact: The Nazis invented privitization, it was actually their main economic policy.

Anyway, first off, the USSR was state capitalist.

Repeat after me:

Socialism refers to a society in which the means of production are collectively owned and controlled democratically by the *workers*. NOT the state.

IT DOES NOT refer to a WELFARE STATE/SOCIAL DEMOCRACY.

IT DOES NOT mean "everyone is paid the same" even people who "work much harder" thus "destroying the incentive to work". Wages are DEMOCRATICALLY DECIDED such that everyone receives the full value of their labour, which is generally more than enough than they need to survive. It means an end to capitalist extraction of surplus value wherein the worker is paid less than the value that they produce.

Now moving on, Communism refers to a society in which socialism is so advanced that there is NO STATE, NO CLASSES and NO MONEY. This is coupled with such a vast abundance of goods due to automation that very little work is needed.

The phrase communist state is a contradiction in terms.

THERE HAVE YET BEEN NO COMMUNIST SOCIETIES

A big reason why is that worker exploitation is at it's worst in less developed countries, which means that socialist movements arise there first. But these countries lack the means of production to seize and a surplus to redistribute, so as Marx said:

“A development of the productive forces is the absolutely necessary practical premise [of Communism], because without it want is generalized, and with want the struggle for necessities begins again, and that means that all the old crap must revive.”

Even if they do manage to surmount this obstacle, they are often overthrown or sabotaged by imperialist interests, typically by the US.

If you want a nice example of socialism you can take a look at Cuba. It's a fairly primitive version of it but:

Everyone has food, everyone has homes, everyone is literate and has access to all the education they can possibly want. It is also the only country that is sustainable according to the World Wildlife Fund. It's arguably the most democratic country in the world. Nearly everything is decided via nationwide referendums and direct democracy. People also have a lot of democracy in the work place. The only thing that's off the menu is capitalist politics because people don't want to go back to how terrible things were before.

All of this was achieved starting from a tiny, backwards and destitute island that was being plundered and oppressed by a privatizing and murderous dictator backed up by the USA.

Despite this and the constant imperialism by the US, invasions, sanctions and embargos, look at what is has achieved.

Now, take a look at the legacy of neoliberalism lol, especially in NZ. We were a country with a powerful labor movement with worker rights, affordable housing and a strong social safety net. Now we have Crumbling infrastructure and massive poverty caused by plain looting by the capitalist class with trickle down nonsense and privatization.

So pls, fuck off with this ignorant and incoherent McCarthyist drivel.
