LPT: don't recommend a friend for a job unless you've seen them work or you are willing to risk both relationships. A good friend isn't always a good worker.

Ooooh hell can I relate. We're doing a major rebrand at my company (I work as a graphical designer) and since we got an extended budget, our head of design decided to take in one of his old friends who's a "rebranding wizard". I'll admit it, I was sold from seeing some of his past work; the guy sported some really neat brandbooks from some major scandinavian players.

Fast forward to project start. I start to get bad vibes when this guy starts spewing acid over his ex-wife (he's in the middle of a divorce) during design meetings. He keeps messaging her on facebook (he's seated right next to my desk) and spends hours in a room arguing on the phone. For a 250$/hour consultant this is WAY out of line, not to mention his flirting with, and complaining about the lack of response from our office manager. Meanwhile, the rebranding proposals he puts out is very mediocre, all low hanging fruit and some of it looks A LOT like one of our major competitors.

I bring this up with our head of design, suggesting that we cut our losses and find someone else who's more stable but he won't hear it since this is his friend and we should give him another chance. Even though this guy charges platinum and is chewing through our design budget fast.

I was so pissed that I decided to do some research on this self proclaimed "Rebranding-wizard" and after a few quick google searches and phone calls to the bureaus responsible for the brand books this idiot presented as his own, his lie started to crumble. I blew the whistle to our higher ups, which got this con-artist and our HoD sacked.

TL:DR; Our Head of Design hired his best friend who sucked at design. I got them both sacked.
