Man arrested after trying to sell drugs in traffic court

My first thought hearing this story and seeing his pissed-off face is that he was setup. Probably mouthed-off to the police and they set him up to get burned.

Suboxone is a narcotic, but it also has naloxone, which is used to treat opiate addiction. The purpose of the medication is to manage addiction. It works like methadone, but in pill form. He had two pills on him, which would be his emergency pills in the event that he got stock somewhere and didn't have easy access to his prescription at home. Not wanting to risk carrying the whole bottle, he probably just put two of the necessary pills into his pocket. For anyone who manages opiate or benzo addiction, this would make perfect sense. What he probably didn't consider is that it is illegal to carry such medications while not being in their original prescription bottle. A Lot of people overlook that because they think having a legit prescription is enough.

The police probably interviewed him in the past and discovered that he is an addict. Just knowing this fact is enough to wager a 50/50 bet that he would have some kind of opiate on him at all times. (If you know addicts, they always carry something) I'm guessing they either had the full inside knowledge or just took a chance. They cut a deal with another defendant that day to set him up. After-all the police had nothing to lose. If he didn't have the Suboxone they would have just released him, no harm done. The gamble was in their favor.

That's a lot of speculation, I know, but I lived with a recovering heroin addict for over a year. I know their habits and how predictable this all is. What doesn't add up is that this guy is not likely stupid enough to sell drugs while leaving court, nor is it likely that some random stranger defendant is going to talk to this guy on a whim (people in court mind their own business) and then go report it to the same police whom he is facing charges with. If you're in court, you're not going to be doing the police any favors...unless there is some kind of deal.

This whole thing stinks to high hell.
