Too bad. Liberalism (and I mean Classical Liberalism, which encompasses both what we here in America call Liberalism and Conservatism), which has provided us with so many benefits, political and otherwise, was built on the accumulated capital of hundreds of years of Christianity in both its Protestant and Catholic forms. The exhaustion of this capital will only lead to Liberalism eating itself, and the collapse of all we hold dear. I am told by some this is a good thing, that our liberal society is hopelessly oppressive. You don't have to be a genius to see the alternatives, however. Just read 1984 or Brave New World. Both fictionalized accounts are becoming reality before our very eyes. Welcome to the new world, indeed.
