"Man Shall Never Fly"

What is so scary about socialism and communism to the US government? Why do they consider it a threat to our country? Why can't socialist and capitalist countries coexist? I understand totalitarian dictatorships coupled with communism is scary. But socialism or communism don't necessitate a dictatorship. I was told in school that the primary cause of the US in the cold war was to defeat communism. Eliminating authoritarian regimes was also the goal but the war was mostly framed as 'the war against communism' as opposed to 'the war on totalitarian dictatorships.' Why does it matter if Cuba is communist? Why must we stop them from being commies? I know many of you would say it's to protect United States capitalism, the bourgeois want the masses to believe socialism and communism are broken machines. But I really don't know. Sometimes I think that the US government really does believe communism is evil and believe in their own propaganda.

Off tangent, but it's really hard to formulate my own opinion when some of our own leaders are deceitful. There is so much propaganda that goes around and different versions of stories, who the hell can I believe? Isn't it fucked up that I don't know with 100% certainty what the US motives for the war in Afghanistan are. Some say oil, most say ending terror. I'm pretty sure the war being motivated by oil is a tin foil theory. However, I often wonder if our own government is that corrupt, manipulative, and self-interested. Does the US government look for every opportunity to fabricate narratives to satisfy their own greed. They can't be that evil and calculating, right? Seeing the lengths the US goes to eradicate and sabotage communism makes me cynical.
