Is it me, or has this forum become overrun with people upset about anything Oculus does?

This is a pretty good overview.

I have a DK2. I like Oculus. However, they have been making some pretty questionable decisions for a while.

Also, it's important to note that people that have been around since the KS and don't really agree with Facebook mentioned that the character of Oculus as a company would change pretty drastically post-acquisition, only to be shouted down as being delusional nuts. But I think it's pretty undeniable they have changed.

Anyone who has gone through these corporate acquisitions and seen the original company assure everyone in a big community PR post that the parent is "hand's off" (it's hilarious how samey these statements all are, despite coming from different companies) and that they'll continue their original vision unmolested.

And then it doesn't happen that way.

But as to today's news, I think it's underwhelming to bundle hardware that most PC gamers already own or could buy cheaper than Oculus can sell it, or don't even want. Everyone here would have been far more happy to see the "Oculus Touch" bundled with the Rift on launch, instead of 6mo down the line.

This also means that people who do buy the Rift and later want Oculus Touch (that name is so awkward) will have paid for the XB1 controller they didn't need instead of that money going to the Oculus Touch which is now an additional expense. I think this also kinda kills the whole "Vive will be more expensive!" angle, because now the Rift is +XB1 $ more expensive at launch, +$ cost of Oculus Touch 6months later.

Regardless, it's underwhelming as a VR enthusiast.

As a VR developer it's kind of a disaster. Input fragmentation is no joke despite the jokes of non-devs all over the place that have never dealt with it and aren't affected by it anyway.

Not bundling the Touch means that most Rift users simply won't have wand controllers that can reliably targeted. So expect to support two input schemes if you're developing for the Rift, one of which is underwhelming and not really suited to VR except for third person games, where it performs about the same as the Touch controllers will, since they too have dual analog sticks (not having your hands together = also more comfortable over long periods).

My TLDR is that people are annoyed not because they are haters of Oculus, but because they are ultimately disappointed in Oculus weird decisions.
