Megathread: School Shooting in Florida

I understand that there are gun rights people who believe in some die hard like survival fight with guns but I am not one of them. There are countless other types of situations where a gun could be a defensive measure.

If your route home from work takes you through a rough part of town or a park at night then a daily carry weapon is being used defensively. Someone who has a known stalker that has violated restraining orders might buy a weapon for defensive purposes. In both of those cases you wouldn't be struggling with a gun safe or anything like that to use them.

At night, in my mind, all that matters is that you are the only person with direct control of the weapon. It doesn't have to be in a vault in the hall closet but lock your bedroom door so you don't have to worry about a kid sneaking in to take it at night.

If you have more than one gun all the ones not in use should be in the gun safe. It is common sense but it isn't required everywhere.
