That's one point. The other is why would he want the job, not only because of the state of the club but also because he could win the Euros with Belgium next year. Even if Ashley offers him £3 or £4m it doesn't seem like a particularly good idea because if he does well again next summer it's possible he'll get offers from more ambitious clubs.

Not sure where the idea that he has a terrible record comes from though. It's true that sometimes his sides get thrashed by absurdly large margins and Everton fans wanted him out. But Wigan were one of only four clubs to make a profit on transfers during his time there and had one of the lowest wage bills in the league - they had the lowest in the season they were relegated - and he kept them up for four years while playing good football and won the FA Cup.
