[META] About going private

"First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

Reddit is what it is because of the people who run the subreddits and the people who inhabit the subreddits. Except for a few key employees like /u/chooter who actually existed to make the mods' lives easier, reddit as a community and an internet powerhouse could still exist and thrive with only a couple of paid employees who keep the lights on and keep the servers up. Don't let the management dictate what reddit is; let the users do it.

If this revolt against the management of reddit fails to gain critical mass, it was over before it started. You've already got people treating it as "grade school drama" right here in this thread. If that attitude is embraced site-wide and by the management, the management has won a terrible fight and will continue to exert power and ignore mods for eternity. There's already a new reddit clone in full operation, and if enough people join the revolt the management of reddit risk losing the site entirely. They won't let it go that far.

Darkness is the only real option at this point.
