Milwaukee Schools Prohibited from Opening Classrooms this Fall

You are mistaken if you think the 100,000+ Milwaukee area k-12 students are all going to be patiently siting at their home desks in front of their chromebooks all day this fall. Most will probably be participating on their phones with who knows what kind of distractions. Truancy rates will probably explode. I’ve seen a zoom call with 17 3rd graders and can say it is far from an ideal learning environment. The effectiveness of remote learning will depend on the level of engagement and dedication of the teachers, parents and kids. Even the top private schools in the city will not be able to provide anything closely resembling a full day of instruction. Even the most disciplined and stringent homes will have a hard time keeping their kids engaged with school work all day every day. Most parents have to work. Yes, many of the kids who would otherwise be in school will be out and about in the community this fall.
