Misrepresentation in board games

Are you troubled by the laughable representation of Norse Mythology in Blood Rage?

It seems clear to me that this series of games is meant to borrow aesthetic and thematic elements from these older cultures without any pretensions toward factual or historical representation. There are a number of "dudes on a map" games drawn from mythology and older cultures. Egyptian (Kemet), Cyclades (Greek), Blood Rage (Norse), Inis (Gaelic), Cry Havoc (James Cameron), etc. All of them are incredibly fantastical and bear little resemblance to the actual mythologies they derive inspiration from.

It actually strikes me as an odd sort of orientalism that Rising Sun is the first I've seen spawn discussions about "accurate representation." There are games that are weirdly colonial toward eastern cultures, but Rising Sun is so fantastical I don't think it's a good fit for that discussion.

Now your point about "bikini warriors" is much more legit, especially in relation to Lang's Blood Rage. But Lang has apologized for that aspect of the game and said he'd continue to work on being more inclusive. You can see it in the much improved representations of women in Rising Sun.
