The Monkey King as a model for the Essential Asian Man

They lied to the Monkey King and said this was an all powerful position that controls both the Heavens and the Earth, but he eventually realizes it's a shit job, quits and goes on an all out war against the full strength of the Heavens.

This is actually a perfect allegory for the state that Asian Americans are in today. Theyre saying all this shit about how we shouldn't be complaining because we are the "Model Minority" when we know this is bullshit. We need to fight back just like Sun Wukong.

Remember what happens at the end of the Monkey King story, though. He fucks everyone up (King of the Ocean, King of Hell, and the armies Jade Emperor of Heaven) then declares himself the greatest who's ever lived and literally pisses on the hand of the Buddha. For this arrogance, he gets imprisoned for 500 years until a Bodhisattva gives him a chance to redeem himself. The lesson in this is not to be an arrogant little shit.

It's a shame that most of the Chinese series based on the Monkey King legend and the Journey to the west suffers from low production and piss poor writing. Sun Wukong is a surprisingly well-written, complicated, and deep character. He's actually not a good guy or bad guy. He's a very mischievous and ambitious monkey who's trying to be the best that there is, whatever that means. The original Monkey King story included a lot more violence. For example, in one situation, Sun Wukong kills 3 innocent people who were possessed by demons in order to protect a buddhist monk. Most of the Chinese serials are all campy silly and although that's completely fine, I'd love to see a grittier Monkey King story with some humor thrown in. It's a shame because I highly doubt the Chinese would ever allow something like that to be produced.
