I think it is more that mtf trans is just more recognized because, on the whole, most of the hate/outrage is directed towards them. Like I doubt most men give a flying fuck as to which bathroom a ftm transgender person goes to, but god forbid a woman with a Y chromosome uses the same bathroom as the women without a Y chromosome.

The mtf is seen as “a predator who is invading women’s spaces” in their minds whereas a ftm is more seen as “a girl trying to be one of the guys.” Like the vibe I get is that the general population is more hateful/disgusted towards mtf trans and more condescending/pitying towards ftm trans.

There is more nuance than I am presenting, but basically mtf trans are more well known and more controversial and therefore cause higher ratings when thrown in as a character in something.
