Multilingual Redditors, What is your "They didn't realize I spoke their language" story?

Two stories. The first one is a "They thought I spoke their language" story. I was living in Sevilla, Spain at the time. I'm American and racially ambiguous as fuck. I speak fluent Spanish but didn't speak with the Iberian/Andalusian accent in this story. To top it all off, I was fairly drunk when what you're about to read happened.

I was walking back to my place after a night at the bars with my friends. It was around 3am. I'm walking by myself. When I lived there, I tried to assimilated a bit. So I dressed and styled my hair like more Spanish than American. To say the least, I looked like a regular tío that wasn't new to the area. This night, these two teenage Spanish guys holler at me asking where a nearby ATM is. I assume they were tourists visiting the city. I answered simply, "there's an ATM on the other side of that roundabout". Maybe a bit drunkenly slurred, but definitely intelligible Spanish. I did not anticipate the look on their faces. Their eyes grew wide. Their jaws dropped. And they just bursted out laughing their asses off as they walked away mocking me. I politely told them in Spanish (I was unrelenting) to fuck off and then started telling them off in English. That's when they stopped laughing and just walked away quietly. I can only imagine they expected to just hear some simple directions from a local guy, but what they heard probably sounded like a dimwit to them AKA a slurred foreign accent coming from who they thought was Spanish.

Another story (this time they didn't realize I spoke their language): the same time I was living in Spain, a few friends from the states visited me. They wanted to see the sites, so we went to track down a museum in a touristy area. I'd never visited it prior, and we had trouble finding it. I don't know why at the time, but I decided to ask a couple for directions in English. Maybe because I was with two American friends that didn't speak Spanish. But the couple didn't even try to help! The guy just said he didn't know as we tried showing the name of the place on our phones. Then he turns to his lady counterpart and in Spanish says, "Fucking tourists." Before we walk away, I respond, "I live here, man. Thanks for fucking nothing". I caught them off guard, he doesn't respond and we all walk our own way.

TL:DR - Two stories. First one, two Spaniards ask a drunk American for directions and laugh their asses off when he answers. Second one, Spaniard shit talks that he hates tourists, American guy tells him he's not a tourist.
