Multiple people injured in shooting at a theater in Lafayette, Louisiana

The idea of successfully overthrowing the U.S. Government with a band of people marching into DC with their rifles is so impractical that it is laughable.

The idea that a rag tag bunch of farmers/ ranchers / frontiersmen / citizens would take on what was one of the greatest empires the world has ever seen with arguably the best equipped and most experienced army was laughable too.

Tell me how the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan (twice now) went.

It's not impossible to slowly phase guns out of day to day life and watch legal and illegal weapons diminish in quantity over time.

You say that as if it is a foregone conclusion, that all of a sudden guns will up and disappear if you take away the right for law abiding citizens to own them. If you think access to guns really is the issue then why don't we see these crime rates in Canada or Switzerland? Owning a firearm isn't that hard in Canada, getting a PAL or a restricted PAL isn't that hard. Magazine pins and blocks can be removed so that it's capacity can hold more than 5 rounds. There is clearly a way to be a country that owns firearms (even those scary black rifles with the shoulder thing that goes up) and not have ridiculous crime rates.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewseb59lLzk This is a good video on what owning a firearm is like in Canada (although they have loosen restrictions lately, especially with their ATTs).

If you want to go the Sweden path you should tell me how restricting laws so that guns can't be used to defend yourself will stop people from walking into a theater/church/whatever and going on a killing spree. I don't see how a law that says "you can't use a firearm for defense" or "you can't carry a firearm on your person" will mean that gang bangers in Detroit and LA will stop shooting each other.

Moreover Serbia has a gun ownership rate of 69.7 per 100 residents but only has a gun murder rate of .062 per 100,000.

What makes you think outlawing guns wont create a black market much as we did with outlawing narcotics? What makes you think a country that can't stop the flow of said narcotics to this country will be able to stop the flow of illegal firearms?

I understand the use of guns as recreation and especially for hunting - I have shot some guns in my life, but the hysteria is straight up ridiculous. It's not impossible to slowly phase guns out of day to day life and watch legal and illegal weapons diminish in quantity over time.

I don't own a firearm for sporting and hunting I own firearms to defend myself. To quote Clint Smith "I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy".
