This reminds me of a joke/story I once heard.

A man is on a hike and is admiring the view when suddenly he slips, and falls off the edge of the cliff he is on. He'd clinging to the rock-face for dear life. The waves are crashing below him, and his hands are getting tired, but luckily some other hikers come along. They lean over the cliff and hold out their hands, telling him to grab them and they'll pull him up. But the man says "No. God will save me".

The other hikers call emergency services, and a rescue team gets there. The man is tiring quickly, his muscles are cramping, and the rescue team rappels down next to him with a harness and a rope, and starts to put the harness of him. The man kicks his legs and says "NO! God will save me."

The rescuers return to the cliff top, the man is really struggling now. Soon a helicopter comes along , and the man's wife is in it. The helicopter lowers a sling, and the man's wife begs him to get into it. The man yells "NO! GOD WILL SAVE ME!"

Very shortly after his hands give way and he falls to his death.

He gets to heaven, and is faced with God. He says "If I can ask Lord - I had faith in you. Why didn't you save me?"

And God says...

Mate, I sent you hikers, a rescue team, a friggen' helicopter and your WIFE. What more did you want??"
