My company might transfer me to Bangkok. Questions about daily life.

If you really want a car you would probably make life easier by commuting via public transport to work from your nearby home and using your car for weekend trips outside the city. Be sure to live near the skytrain or subway. Driving in Bangkok is not the fun activity it might be in areas where traffic is sparse or flows freely. I would also not recommend riding a motorbike here, especially if you have a family. A very dangerous mode of transportation here, deaths from motorbikes make up the lion's share of the very high death toll. If you ride in a taxi a few times you will note how the general habit is to accelerate rapidly when heading towards a red light and then brake at the last minute to slow down. If you are seated at an intersection on a bike waiting for the light to change that would make me very nervous. Also, bikes are just above pedestrians when it comes to priority and cars will literally run you down or off the road if you insist on your right of way. I have literally known at least a dozen people, Thai and foreign, who have died on motorbikes here over the years. "Hey, remember the guy who changed the bulb in the garage?" "Yeah, why?" "He died this weekend in a bike accident." Have had versions of that conversation more than a few times. I used to ride motorcycles when I was younger. I would never do that here.
