All I'm saying here is that somehow access to the internet should be a right, that all humans are entitled to. Whether that be through nationalization or some other programme is not relevant to me.

I have thought a lot about trying to accommodate both, actually. Imagine if the Canadian government owned a bunch of telecom companies that all competed like the school system (at least here in Alberta). Perhaps the government pays the companies for however many people the telecom companies support, allowing anyone access, and then the state owned enterprises can all compete for the public. This way the government can both give everyone who wants access, and maintain the competition that keeps the free market effective at product equality and price. This is the education system here in Alberta, and I've thought that perhaps this would be useful to apply in a bunch of areas.

regardless, the main point is that this ought to be applied as a right in a 21st century society in the most effective way possible, and nationalization is the traditional way of doing that.
