We need a large scale movement against social media (in its current form)

As others have said: not gonna happen, at least not in its current configuration. Social media is designed to keep you addicted, to make you not want to quit. There will be no “mass awakening” because the majority of people don’t even realize they’re addicted (and I don’t blame them-it’s hard to arap your brain around this stuff, let alone understand the very sophisticated ways that social media keeps you scrolling). We would need something extremely drastic like the collapse of the internet itself to break this addiction, but that’s going to cause much bigger problems than “people no longer having access to social media.”

However, I will depart from the cynicism of the others here by saying I don’t think we should despair or be totally blackpilled about this. You yourself can spread the message in your own life. Don’t be annoying about this, of course—just be thoughtful and supportive where you can. I used to be hella addicted to Twitter, but I did away with it about six months ago. My sister, mom, and brother in law have also quit, partly (though not entirely of course) due to my encouragement. I don’t think I can start a mass movement to quit social media, but at least I made a difference in my own sphere.
