When I was in college I took mathematics of finance. I didn't care about finance at all but before the crisis I thought maybe I would try to get a job there because money. (I actually did end up getting fired after one week at a trading firm after graduating.) Also I was pledging a fraternity that semester and was generally lazy throughout all of school.
In this class we had term projects where I did literally nothing for the project at all the whole semester and just stood there while the two other people in my group gave a whole presentation in front of the lecture hall, me trying to make faces like I did understood any of it, and hoping the professor did not direct any question specifically at me because I had no clue what the fuck my "partners" were talking about. I would not be able to tell you even the first thing about what that project except that it involved math, and finance.
So I was looking at the gradebook to see how I was doing. Hmm. I'm failing this class. There was 0 recorded for the midterm, which I definitely turned in. I had gotten Cish grade on all homework assignments, that is, on those that I actually turned in, which was only like half of them. With the grade calculated as it was, I was definitely going to fail on the final. Now I know I missed one or two but I was pretty sure there were a few I did that weren't being counted. In truth I did not know which ones, but I was pretty sure some were missing. And I know I took the fucking midterm, come on.
So I emailed the professor about this saying that not all my assignments had been turned in, and could he make sure with his TAs everything I turned in got counted. No response. Hmm...shit. Well nothing to do now but cram for the final and hope I make some kind of sense on it.
After the final teacher finally emails me back (this is like two weeks after my initial email.) All his emails says, and I am quoting this, since I was able to actually find the email:
you even did not sign this message so I must go and figure out who [my first name and school email address] is.
Did you sign your homeworks? There were unsigned homeworks Did you ever check on courseworks your grades before December 18. Did you ever speak to TAs about it?
It is your responsibility during the regular period of the class to do all that.
No mention of the missing midterm. Apparently cannot even be bothered to find me in the class roster (email addresses were super easily searchable to find the student's name). Go to look at my grade: B-. Now, that may have been mathematically possible if I aced the final, but I definitely did not ace that shit, and I wasn't sure if I even passed it.
What I gathered was that somehow this professor was even lazier than I was and didn't want to deal with a bitching student at the end of the semester, so, even though I clearly hadn't done shit (but could plausibly claim I had done somewhat more than was recorded) he just said fuck it and gave me a B-.
TL;DR: I accidentally finessed a gentleman's B-
