Nah, the devil is in the wrong still. Imagine some snake came to your house and made your dog sentient. Your dog may still love you but they are gonna know that being entirely reliant on you makes them essentially your slave. Like what if they fall in love, but you only have the money for one pet. Are they gonna let their dreams be dictated by their “owner” and their “owner’s needs”, and push their own needs away. So now that pet has to go out on its own into society. But it’s gonna struggle cause it’s a dog and how does a dog make a living. At some point the dog will realize that the dog was happier when it was just a normal dog, and not some weird sentient dog thing with a family and a mortgage. But it can’t go back now, cause the only thing worse than being a dog with a family, a job, and a mortgage… is losing your mortgage, your job, your family, and your freedom.
