New Frozen DM Tips Wanted.

Congrats. Definitely get some gloves and maybe something for your head. I have a beanie and personal jacket I use. I bought gloves at another Walmart that I'm able to use on the mc40 touch screen, but they aren't super warm.

Typically I'll scan a few bins and get a good cart loaded, then work it so I'm in and out of the cold. I don't mind the cold but too long in there kills my knees. I like to keep my stuff organized by aisle. Not sure how big your freezer is but I'm able to separate some of the healthy meals into their own bin, seafood, snacks and apps.. All their own spot. Make sure you work with the overnighters so they know what you want to do and you can fix any issues with something they do. I worked with my nighters before I went to days and if I didn't talk with them regularly I'd be way worse off. Since I don't have an associate they are they only help I have and I'd be screwed without them.

Make sure your end caps are always filled. Normally I have the night guys slot comac (every sunday) put in its own bins for me to work. Management will always ask you about an empty endcap. I set the category 13 mod today and was asked twice during the process if I had plans for it. If you have bunkers it is the same story, keep them filled always and zoned. When management does their morning walk they only look at my bunkers and ends. Rarely do they walk the aisle. If you look up the comac guide it will tell you what they are sending each week and where it's suggested to go, but I rarely follow it. Right now we're selling appetizers and pizzas up front for super bowl. You also should theme the doors. Example of a bad idea would be pizza, vegetables, and icecream all in one end cap. I can usually get away with some odd mixtures but the grocery Co will almost always ask me if I have something different (which I dont) to theme the doors. When you get low and change them out you'll more than likely have to take something to the back room and I highly recommend you stick with tagging and binning it. If an endcap of mine doesn't feature to home then I mostly get lazy and toss it in a banana box on my top steel and leave it for another time. It's much better to do the right thing and keep it organized. Pay attention to the comac guides and plan for it, but know that what comes in sometimes isn't always what comes in.

Keep am eye on your freezer Temps and load limits. I'd say maybe once a month one of mine break and I'm throwing everything into a shopping cart before it thaws. Maybe yours are more reliable but I get anything from a random break down to ice blocking the fans or even a fan getting un plugged. They will defrost maybe once or twice a day (my backroom ones do it 4 times a day) and that lasts for over half an hour. Don't panic and start yanking product, just note the time and monitor it.

Stay on top of your price changes and reviews.. Just keep your bam screen clear. Management at my store loves to call over the radio about late price changes or reviews. Remember the reviews are due Tuesday and price changes are late 3 days as well, I think.

When you change your counts make sure you've got your backroom fully audited, which is again why you should label and bin your comac stuff you take out of an end cap. If you know what's in your back room you can almost always safely say you don't have the item and can zero or change the count. I frequently find stuff that was delivered and not actually delivered or vice versa. The on hands will magically get mixed up and they are the key to keeping an empty back room.

Put items on features on feature tracking (f10). I never did this because in the past item replenishment worked fine. Now a lot of my feature items are getting replenished with on hands around 100 and shelf caps at maybe 12. So when you build an endcap, activate feature tracking so doesn't replenish based on product rate of sale.

I think between myself and the other guy we've covered quite a bit. Feel free to pm me or post if you have any other questions. It seems a lot of dms at my store get thrown into a department position without actually being taught even the basic things like shelf availability. Do what you can to keep your back room empty and life should be easy. I think frozen is one of the more fun departments to work. Good luck.
