You remind me of my best friend, he’s a thelemite with interest in shiva as well. He has gone with me to ISKCON and hindu temples and we talk about things a lot. We’ve gone to temples and been given the cold eye and silent treatment the whole time but we have also (more often) had the opposite treatment! Last time we went to ISKCON together we were sitting towards the back and a man was kind enough to give us his own phone with the scripture and translation pulled up so we could follow along. No one batted an eye at my tattoos, or our skin color, or the fact that my friend completely mucked up the kirtan pronunciations, or that i was way too into it singing loud and slapping my knees to the khol. Im not telling you this to get you to join ISKCON (i dont consider myself one) but so you can see that while there might be some unwelcoming people along the way, thats not it. There are plenty wonderful people waiting with their arms and hearts wide open
