North Park Hill: Hit and run

Ugh, I'm so sorry this happened to you. Our car was nearly totaled in a hit and run earlier this year. It was similar in that they left identifiable parts behind, and in our case it was a pretty unusual vehicle that hit us. We drove all around looking for it and eventually (days later) ended up finding it parked right around the corner. The damage matched up perfectly. I took pictures and called DPD.

You might have to be very persistent even if you find the other car. DPD dispatch sent officers who told me they couldn't do anything even with all the evidence in hand. I stewed on it for a while and then contacted my local DPD public information officer (these are listed on the DPD website) for help. Eventually I got connected to an awesome detective who tracked the guy down and got him to confess, and we got the full deductible back from his insurance company.

But - there definitely was crossed wires / confusion at first with our first contacts with DPD (dispatch and the first officers we spoke with). It sounded like maybe they had a recent policy/procedure change re: hit and runs, so maybe it's ironed out now.

I did read (re: other jurisdictions) that even with eyewitnesses, the driver just has to say "that wasn't me" and they can't be charged. I think we got lucky that our guy confessed. Our detective did have an intimidating phone voice, so maybe that helped...

Good luck!!
