NY Governor Andrew Cuomo has just issued an executive order prohibiting state funded travel to North Carolina due to NC's new transgender law. What are your thoughts on this? Do you agree? Would you like your governor to do the same?

Civilizations have been using walls as a method of controlling access for a long time. If we control the points of entry, we can have a great deal of control over who comes in and who gets out

Look, there are two reasons Trump's wall idea is stupid. The first is that it's nearly impossible to build, both politically and logistically - if you read the link above, you'd learn that Trump is proposing a massive public works project of a scale on par with the Hoover Dam, and unlike the Hoover Dam, this has zero possibility of netting the taxpayer a ROI. It will take decades and cost hundreds of billions to build and maintain. Nope, it's a non-starter. If you're truly as concerned about border security as you say, you should be voting for something with a non-zero percent chance of ever existing.

The second reason it's stupid, and why you should oppose it if you're truly concerned about border security, is because it's not even addressing the right problems: Mexican immigrant population has been declining for nearly a decade now, and the rate of Mexican emigration has exceeded immigration for even longer. Nearly half of all illegal immigrants enter this country legally and his wall won't do one damn thing about that.

and it goes beyond "Mexicans," who as a people I have no gripe with (Trump's rhetoric on them does not reflect my views, but no perfect candidate exists). I think, beyond controlling the influx of immigrants, we also have valid national security concerns regarding a southern border wall.

Come on, man. I'm not an idiot, you're (presumably) not an idiot, why say things only an idiot would believe? The only reason Trump wants to build a wall with Mexico is to keep out Mexicans. There's no other remotely plausible explanation for it. Nobody's worried about ISIS sneaking in through Juárez. Now, whether keeping out Mexicans can serve any tangible benefit beyond satisfying the xenophobia of Trumpeters is a separate debate, but let's at least be honest about our intentions here.

That is absolutely not true. Here, let me give you a sample of what white people in media write about:

You know what the difference between those people and Trump are? They aren't orange (probably), and they aren't running for fucking President. You can't cry about the oppressive liberal media while voting for a President who wants to implement oppressive laws and pretend it's equivalent.

Right, so we agree, holding groups accountable for the actions of a few is just fine.

Nope, we don't, and don't put words in my mouth. I never said or implied that.

You, like most liberals, just equate your points of view with "justice" and "goodness," condemning anyone who disagrees (see point D) even though you'll happily point out how silly Christianity is for being morally inflexible.

And you, like most frothy-mouthed right-wingers (you're right, generalizing is fun) love to make assumptions about people you don't know so you can respond to arguments they didn't make.
