Official Reddit to Real World Distance Conversion Formula

I think your equation is great, but I'm 100% telling the truth below:

I'm not very good at golf. I shot at 106 last weekend (tied for my best) and was actually pretty happy, because I only lost 2 balls and hit some really good shots out of the sand (I was living in the beach), including 3 pars.

For me, golf is about having fun, drinking beers, catching up with friends, and hitting the ball at least well enough that you're not completely embarrassing yourself or slowing down play.

I only had a couple shots the whole day that were total failures and only went forwards a few yards. For the most part everything was skied, even if inaccurate, or flatted to a decent/not too embarassing result.

I'm sure some people here can drive 300, but I doubt most of them can.

If I had to guess my average drive distance, I'd probably say it's around 230 yards or so. I had 1 great drive the other day that might have gone to the 250-270 yard range, but that was a downhill shot. For woods/irons, I use this:

200+ yards = 3 wood

180+ yards = 5 wood

160+ yards = 4 iron

150+ yards = 5 iron

140+ yards = 6 iron

130+ yards = 7 iron

120+ yards = 8 iron

110+ yards = 9 iron

100+ yards = PW

52 degree and 56 degree wedges for the rest. I never use my 3 iron, so I'm thinking of getting a 60 degree wedge for my bag.

I know that's not very powerful, but those are really my honest distances, please don't regress them with the formula. I play golf to have fun and I hope to get better, I really do love the game, and I don't slow it down. My score of 106 was mainly due to me averaging a 3 putt on every hole, I'm actually decent at skying it!

Need to just work on getting more power, accuracy, putting, and short game.

My sand game was really good though, I got out of the sand on the first try every time last weekend! Had one of the shots almost go in, too.
