To older redditors, what did the generation above you hate about your generation?

Yeah, I was thinking (as I was waving my cane in the air screaming at imaginary birds) that popular music these days is really soft, nice, and gentle, kind of like popular music from the 1970s (e.g., John Denver, Carole King, Donna Summer, not punk or counterculture obviously). I nearly said aloud in my car that "Ed Sheeran sounds like a nice boy."

Male musicians are mostly nice, gentle boys singing about someone they like but they're so shy, non-threatening, etc.: Ed Sheeran, Drake, The Weeknd, a lot of country pop, Maroon 5, every boy band of all time, Bruno Mars, Sam Smith, Hozier, etc.

Female popular musicians have a little of that "nice, safe" vibe (Taylor Swift, Adele), but for the most part, their music is more empowering and overtly sexual or political: Cardi B, Beyonce, Ariana, Lady Gaga, Kesha, etc.

Rap has also softened considerably in the last 5-10 years. I know there's still "rebellious" music underground, but as far as what's on the radio, it's mostly stuff you can listen to with your mom in the car. When I was coming of age in the late 1990s, early 2000s, I would never have the radio on if my mom was around because the most popular songs were SO overtly sexual or angry.
