Older woman adopted a high energy dog from the shelter and it escaped the same night. Once the dog was located, the shelter suggested she adopt a cat instead. Woman’s daughter insists this is age discrimination.

"As pet parents, we should accept our capabilities."

Surprisingly not that common I've been fostering with a rescue for a while. A disappointing number of applicants want a dog that clearly is not a good fit. I've fostered really scared dogs that were terrified of many noises and needed a quiet home... and they'd be requested by families with multiple young and loud kids. Crazy energetic dogs requested by people who admit they'd walk the dog maybe once a day for ten minutes. We have pretty detailed writeups on the personality and needs of the dogs. But nope; people see a photo and apply. We try to direct people to fosters that have dogs that sound like a better fit and it often works out in the end, but a not-insignificant amount of applicants decide the rescue sucks instead.
