On the new Amazon Pharmacy. Thoughts?

As a trans physician, I’m not totally sure how relevant this question would be to pharmacy. Theoretically there are physiological differences between sexes that could affect the volume of distribution of drugs; theoretically cytochrome p450 may work different in different sexes as well. Theoretically renal blood flow may differ. However, the medical understanding of sex in general is binary in a way that probably isn’t appropriate; furthermore, most of the major drug trials that are commonly cited are done on white cis men and therefore in practice, anybody who is not a white cis man does not necessarily have well supported drug dosing in any case. In practice; many people who are not white cis men probably are dosed too aggressively. I very rarely have seen sex considered in terms of drug dosing; I definitely have never seen a pharmacist change a dose in response to a patient’s supposed sex assigned at birth.

The other points discussed here, such as breast exams, prostate exams, etc. are not clinical decisions made by pharmacy ... furthermore it is probably more informative for a physician to be aware of what body parts the patient has; it is also only important when there is suspected pathology arising from an organ that may be otherwise unexpected because we live in a cisnormative world.
